LAHORE: The major power breakdown which originated from Sindh and disrupted power supply in different parts of Punjab, partially affected Lahore and its adjoining areas, especially Kasur city and its rural areas.
The situation started worsening from morning after various 132kV grid stations and distribution lines of Lahore and Kasur connected with the 220kV & 500kV grid and transmission system reportedly tripped one by one due to cascading impact of the breakdown and squeezed power generation, leaving the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) with no option but to go for forced load shedding in a a bid to protect the system.
On the other hand, the consumers living in various parts of Lahore and Kasur faced worst load shedding, power tripping, fluctuation and other system constraints.
The areas where the power supply remained disrupted included Township, Kalma Chowk, Peco Road, Ichhra, Johar Town, Model Town Link Road, Ferozpur Road and Kot Lakhpat and urban and rural parts of Kasur.
Talking to Dawn, a resident of Ichhra said his area faced frequent power tripping with a longest spell of four hours in the evening.
Lesco CEO and other concerned were not available for a comment.
